After getting certificate as a qualified plumber, there are two options one can choose from to start earning a living.
One can either look for employment or start his own business. The latter option seems to ideal but there are many things one should consider before following this route.
First you need to think about the way in which you are going to finance the business. Start-up finance is usually an obstacle that many people face when starting their own businesses.
For example in the plumbing one needs to have tools and machinery in order to operate as a plumbing contractor.

- Be willing to use hands as plumbing has more to with manual labour.
There are many things one must learn as a plumber eg getting used to be dirty and wet sometimes, using many tools and equipment in a safe and proper way, getting used to dangerous conditions and heights, fitting into small and cramped spaces. It is very important to be accurate in the plumbing business.
You can’t stand making mistakes especially when you work for yourself and you are on your own. Fixing mistakes can be costly and can eat your profit away.
Your people’s and communication skills must be good as there is a lot of interaction with different people.
You have to respect people’s properties and uphold high standards in plumbing to protect the public health.
Another alternative of getting into plumbing business is buying an already existing business or a franchise.
There are many established plumbing businesses that sell franchises of their businesses. Buying a franchise will reduce the stress of running a business on your own as the franchisor offers help when needed.
Finally, one good thing about the plumbing industry is that there are many niche markets one can choose from.
One can install bathrooms, repair and install hot and cold water systems, repair emergency plumbing related problems, install washing machines and dishwashers and clear blocked drains, etc.
