CIC says Mmamabula project can produce 6,000MW

JOHANNESBURUG (Reuters) - CIC Energy said on Thursday its Mmamabula coal field in Botswana could produce 6,000 megawatts of power over 40 years.

"There is enough coal for 6,000 megawatts of power for a 40 year period," Eddie Scholz, the company's chief operating officer of mining told reporters during a media presentation.

CIC also said that if phase one of the project goes as envisioned, it might look at phase two six months after the financial close of phase one, now expected to be completed in mid 2009. It also said South African utility Eskom had expressed interest in purchasing additional capacity from CIC.
